Update 11 from COVID-19 Crisis Task Force
As-Salāmu ‘Alaykum
To our Community members and attendees,
We hope you are all keeping well.
It has been over two months that our centres have been closed and just over 45 days since the ISIJ Secretariat staff began working remotely. While our office is physically closed, we are grateful for the opportunity to interact with you and assist you via email and phone. We are working diligently to ensure that you are still able to reach us.
In Ontario, we continue to see similar trends where new daily cases are growing at a lower rate. As a result, last Monday, the Provincial government unveiled a three-phase plan to reopen, following weeks of lockdown due to the spread of COVID-19. While the plan does not currently include places of worship, the COVID-19 Crisis Task Force continues to monitor the situation.
The first phase of the plan is already underway; focusing on protecting the health and well-being of the people, and on the emergency orders put in place to close non-essential workplaces.
The second phase is segmented into a further three stages, providing a well-measured approach to loosening restrictions and slowly reopening Ontario’s economy. Here, workplaces will begin to open slowly and restrictions on gatherings will slowly be lifted.
The third phase is to ‘recover’ as we transition into a new normal.
Is there a timeline?
No. As our Premier, Doug Ford, put it “The plan is a roadmap, not a calendar. The framework is about how we are reopening, not when we are reopening.”
While this gives us hope that soon we shall return to our normal routine, we must continue to observe health protocols and practice social/physical distancing and personal hygiene and stay the course. Our actions are making a difference!
This is a month of Mercy, a month in which the reward of our actions is multiplied. As you immerse in worship, find comfort in solitude and journey in nearness to Allāh (swt) please keep our community and all of humanity at the forefront of your prayers. May we be relieved of this difficult situation soon.
