This year’s month of Ramadan is like no other. At this time of year, we are typically gathering at our mosques with family and friends, participating in communal and religious gatherings and activities such as the recitation of the holy Quran and Ramadan Du’as and prayers and breaking our fasts together. It is a time of unity where we pray together for each other and for the whole of humanity.
Like many communities around the world, we are facing unprecedented COVID-19 challenges. We are all asked to do our part to help stop the spread of this global pandemic by practicing physical distancing and staying home as much as possible.
An essential part of the fasting in the holy month of Ramadan is the spirit of sharing and while we aren’t able to share in person because of physical distancing, we can share our stories and traditions online!
What is Sharing Ramadan Traditions?
The ISIJ of Toronto’s Sharing Ramadan Traditions campaign is all about staying connected as a community by sharing our Ramadan traditions. It’s an opportunity for us all to come together virtually to keep our Ramadan spirit alive and thriving by sharing our Ramadan Traditions one story at a time!
This campaign aims to bring our community closer and strengthen our ties while promoting and sharing the essence of Ramadan: harmony, an understanding of the commonalities we share and peace. We know that the month of Ramadan is a special time for all and that families and households have unique Ramadan traditions that make the month even more special. We invite you to share one of your Ramadan traditions with us so we can share it online with other community members who may be inspired and learn from your unique traditions.
Are you ready to share your Ramadan Traditions?
We are inviting YOU, community members of all ages and backgrounds in the Greater Toronto Area to share your Ramadan traditions and how you may be adapting them this year as we mark the month of Ramadan in quarantine in our homes. This is a historical Ramadan, our very first one spent in these conditions.
Please share your tradition in writing by submitting the submission form below. You can also attach a photo or video that brings your tradition to life. Remember to follow us on social media where we will share your traditions on Facebook @ISIJofToronto, Twitter: @isijoftoronto and Instagram: @isijoftoronto
