The Jaffari Muslim Food Bank (JMFB) is a non-profit organization that distributes food to individuals and families who are struggling to afford or access adequate nutrition and meals. As a subsidiary of the JCC at 9000 Bathurst Street in Thornhill, Ontario our aim is to serve the local community as well as surrounding communities to provide food assistance to those children and families who may be experiencing food insecurity.
The JMFB is a free monthly grocery delivering food bank that provides essential groceries including non-perishables, fresh produce, eggs, bread, dairy and halal meat to individuals and families on a regular basis with an emphasis on ensuring the utmost discretion and privacy of all recipients.
In order to provide these critical services to those in need, we need your help! By donating to our food bank, you can make a tangible difference in the lives of people who are struggling to put food on the table.
All of your donation is tax-deductible, which means you can claim a tax receipt for your contribution and receive a tax benefit while supporting a good cause. Every dollar donated to our food bank goes directly towards providing food assistance to those in need, so you can be confident that your contribution is making a real impact.
Our food bank is seeking dedicated volunteers who are passionate about making a difference in their community. As a volunteer, you will play an essential role in helping us provide nutritious food to those who are struggling with food insecurity in our area. We are currently seeking volunteers to help with a variety of roles, including delivering food once a month to families in the local area and assisting with administrative tasks. Individuals and families who are in need of food assistance can register by filling out the registration intake form. The registrations will be kept discreet and once approved, recipients will be contacted by a staff member to set up the delivery process.
Once registered, the food bank staff will select a variety of essential groceries based on the household’s size and dietary needs. This can include items such as fresh produce, canned goods, grains, dairy products, and halal protein sources.
The food bank staff will then deliver the groceries directly to the individual or family’s home on a convenient day each month. A discretionary gift card will also be provided to use for personal hygiene and baby products.
The JMFB was an initiative started to combat the ever increasing problem of food security in our community. The need for the Jaffari Muslim Food Bank was identified by community members who recognized that many families in the area were struggling to afford enough food to meet their basic nutritional needs. The food bank was established as a way to address this need and provide essential support to those who were in dire need of a source of halal meat and groceries .
