ISIJ of Toronto Centres Temporarily Closed
As-Salāmu ‘Alaykum
On December 31, 2019, China alerted the World Health Organization (WHO) about several cases of pneumonia caused by a new virus called 2019nCoV. This is a coronavirus which is in the same family of viruses that causes many diseases including SARS and MERS but also the common cold.
Since then, thousands of COVID-19 cases have been reported in China and other countries including those frequented by our community members. In the past few weeks, many of us have followed global news and seen reports of cases being confirmed in many different countries, including Canada where cases identified in Ontario include the Richmond Hill and Thornhill areas. The virus is now in nearly every continent.
Since our last update (Thursday February 27, 2020), a COVID-19 Task Force has been formed, with medical professionals and other members of the community, to assess and review the current health climate and decide on proactive measures we should be taking for the well-being and safety of our members and attendees.
After much deliberation, and with the best interest of our community in mind, the ISIJ of Toronto has decided to take precaution and close all three of its centres for all programs. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Wiladats/Wafats
- Thursday evening programs
- All congregational prayers (including Jumu’ah prayers)
- Weekend Study Centre classes
- Sports events
- Committee/private events
- Weekly classes (including ALI Academy and classes by Sayyid Rizvi)
For updates on when our centres will re-open and activities will resume, please actively monitor jaffari.org/covid2019-updates or follow our social media handles ‘ISIJ of Toronto’ on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.
As-Sadiq Islamic School, for the time being, will remain open and the school administration has taken and implemented all precautionary measures for the safety of the students and parents. For more details please contact the school at 905.695.1588 or [email protected]
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and urge you all to pray for the well-being and safety of our members and attendees. Our Secretariat Office can still be contacted via phone at 905.695.9786 and email at [email protected].
