Lunar Eclipse (Salatul Ayaat)

January 20, 2019 @ 10:33 pm - 12:43 am

Islamic date: Jamaada Al Ula 13
Lunar Eclipse:
There will be a Lunar Eclipse in our region between Sunday January 20th and Monday January 21st.
The full eclipse of the moon will last for about an hour beginning Sunday night and ending early Monday.
A partial lunar eclipse begins on Sunday at approximately 10:33PM. The total eclipse begins at approximately 11:41PM, peaks on Monday at approximately  12:12AM, and ends at approximately 12:43AM.

Salatul Ayaat becomes wajib at the eclipse time. It is better not to delay it once it reaches to the total eclipse. If a person comes to know about the total eclipse later on, it becomes wajib on him to do qaza

The Method of Reciting Salatul Ayaat:

Normal Method:

1. Niyaat/intention: two rak‘at wajib qurbatan ilal-lah.

2. In both rak‘ats there are five rukus:

After al-Hamd and another surah, do ruku.

Then get up and repeat two surahs and go to ruku.

Do this five times, and then go to the sajdah.

Do the 2nd rak‘at in the same way & end with the tashahhud and salam.

**It is recommended that qunut be recited before the second, fourth, sixth, eight & tenth ruku (bowing).

Shorter Method:

1. Niyaat/intention: two rak‘at wajib qurbatan ilal-lah.

2. In both rak‘ats there are five rukus:

After al-Hamd, recite another surah in such a way that you break it down for five rukus. For example:

Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim;

Qul huwal-lahu Ahad + ruku.

Allahus Samad + ruku.

Lam yalid + ruku.

Wa lam yulad + ruku.

Wa lam yakun lahu kufwan ahad + ruku.

Then you go to sajdah.

Do the 2nd rak’at in the same way & end with tashahhud and salam

**It is recommended that qunut be recited before the second, fourth, sixth, eight & tenth ruku (bowing).

Combined Method:

1.     Niyaat/intention: two rak‘at wajib qurbatan ilal-lah.

2.     You can recite the 1st rak‘at in the normal method and the 2nd rak‘at in the shorter method.

**It is recommended that qunut be recited before the second, fourth, sixth, eight & tenth ruku (bowing).
